Book review: People We Meet in Vacation by Emily Henry
January 9, 2025
Generally speaking, I feel like Emily Henry belongs in the summer months, but two of my sisters-in-law and I decided we wanted to read this book together and then watch the movie that is going to be coming out soon and I’m so glad I did! I am a huge fan of Emily Henry. Usually I feel like authors who get a lot of hype on the Internet and I hear a lot about over and over again fall short, i.e. Colleen Hoover, but Emily Henry continues to blow me away. She just writes such believable characters with such believable chemistry with real problems, but the book still feels sweet rather than overwhelming. Sometimes when characters have actual real issues, it is overwhelming to me and frustrating to me and does not end up being a terribly relaxing read. But like always Emily Henry knows how to walk that line and make the issues feel believable without feeling daunting.
We follow the story of a woman named Poppy in timelines jumping around from when she met her best friend Alex to now when things are a little rocky with her best friend Alex. Puppy works for a travel magazine and gets sent on trips in order to write about them and often takes Alex on a summer trip with her. When they first met, they would go on a summer trip together, but on a budget because Poppy was writing it on her own blog rather than for a large company.
This book has a hint of one day and is every girl who has been in love with her best friends dream outcome. The timeline spanning over 12 years where Poppy and Alex are close and then fall apart and then close again and then fall apart feels very reminiscent of my own relationship so I think this book is going to have a special place in my heart for a while. Emily Henry knows how to write romance. I highly suggest this book and all other Emily Henry books.
