Book Review: Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez

We follow the story of Brianna Ortiz - an er doctor at one of the country’s leading hospitals and she’s up for a promotion. That is, she was until the new guy showed up. Now she has to fight for it. It felt like that was the one thing she was going to have going for her. Her brother Benny is sick, her divorce is just about finalized, and her best friend just moved away to be with the love of her life three hours away. Can’t she just have this one thing?
Jacob just transferred because he worked with his ex at the last hospital he was at, and that ex is now going to be his sister in law. She left him and started dating his brother. His boisterous family is on his side, but he doesn’t really want them to be. As an introvert he really just wants the attention off of him and back on the happy couple. His heart forgotten. But when he joins a new team and is instantly hated by everyone, he feels like he may have made the wrong choice. When he runs into the other doctor on the floor (literally she smacks right into him) he’s stunned into silence at her beauty and her obvious hatred of him.
I have got to say, I loved the first 2/3 of this book, but the last chunk was less enjoyable for me. Jacob and Brianna’s chemistry is sweet and I like them together a lot, but there was just so much miscommunication, over and over, and then she got into a “I’m too broken to ever love again. Jacob couldn’t possibly love me” thing that was honestly pretty frustrating and felt a little forced. Overall I would suggest this book but expect to be a little annoyed with Brianna. Jacob is a sweetie and I love him.
