Book Review: A Song For You and I by K. O’Neill

Finally I got my hands on K’s new book and I was not disappointed. My only complaint about it is that I wanted more and that some ideas weren’t entirely hashed out. As always, their art is beautiful and their stories are gentle. I love the way they see the world.

We follow the story of a young ranger who is about to finish their training and they have a zip and vigor for their job. They’re so ready to be in the field and live a life of adventure and protecting those in need. When our young ranger finds themselves faced with an opportunity to prove that they’re ready for this next step they end up placing themselves in a milder position than they desire after putting themselves and their companion Pegasus, Kes, in harms way. They’re get stuck following around a relaxed musitan named Leone who seems to only want to play his violin to the sheep he’s supposed to be watching. Will they ever be able to prove themselves? Will they ever find themselves? Will they ever have a life they can be proud of?

I will always suggest K’s work. Big fan. This is probably one of my least favorite stories of theirs but still beautiful and cozy.
