Book Review: Wings of Starlight by Allison Saft

I am a huge fan of Allison Saft, and this book was no exception. Though it was more geared towards a younger fan, I still loved every second of it.

We follow the story of Queen Clarion before she was queen of Pixie Hallow. She doesn’t feel like she is made to be a governing fairy, because she is nothing like her mentor and predecessor. She is distant and in control and keeps everyone at an arms distance - especially those in the wanter court. They have always been separated from the warm seasons she tells Clarion, but something doesn’t sit right with her. There is no way they are as hostile as she has been told. Just days before her coronation, Clarion is near the boarder of Winter and Spring and she happens across a sparrow man named Milori. He does not seem threatening at all, and honestly, there is something that draws her to him. He tells her that things are not all the way that they seem, but who is she supposed to believe? Her mentor who has known her since she arrived, or this man that seems more honest than anyone she has ever met. With the threat of nightmares escaping from the Winter lake that they have been captured in, and her mentor wanting to cut Winter off from the warm seasons in attempt to keep them safe, Clarion need to figure out who she trusts, and what kind of ruler she wants to be. And fast. Will she be able to keep her people safe in every season? Will she make a good leader even as she feels like she is doing everything wrong? Will she ever get to be close to the people that she loves the most?

I loved this book. I love Allison Safts’ writing in general, and I am a little too old to know the story of Clarion from the Pixie Hallow movies, so I genuinely didn’t know what was going to happen ( and still don’t know much beyond what the book said, so I need to go and watch the movies and get myself caught up) so it was extra sweet to not know what was going to happen at the end. I will say, I wish I read this in winter or spring because it feels like it would be more of a winter or spring book with hope and the beautiful view Clarion has of the colder months ( and I really need a better view of the colder months because one it gets to January I kind of hate it - and that is coming from a Capricorn ) and how they are cozy and sparkling and bright. I recommend this with my full chest.
