Book Review: Fall Risk by Abby Jimenez
January 30, 2026
This month I have devoured the Valentine's novella collection on kindle ( which I will be posting about in the weeks to follow ) and this was suggested as my next read, so I snatched it up. Before this, I had only heard of Abby and how good her books are, but never have actually read anything by her, and now I am fully convinced I need to read some of her longer books.
We follow the story of neighbors, in building sixteen, who wake up one day to find that the stairs to their apartments had been removed. Like actually taken away so that there is no way off the little landing between their apartments. Frantic, they call up their landlord and tell him about what had happened. John, the landlord, calls up the company that he had hired to replace the stairs in building sixty not sixteen and they informed him that there is nothing that can be done over the weekend and that the soonest they can be out to amend their mistake is Monday; three days away. Neither tenant feels that upset about it. Charolette works from home, and doesn’t really like to leave anyway, and Seth is unable to work anyway due to an injury in his ankle. They decide they want to stay there for the weekend. What could be so bad?
This is such a sweet story of love, trust, and finding oneself again after feeling like part of yourself is gone for good. I have been thinking a lot about change recently, and the inevitability of it, and so this was a really sweet reminder that change can be a good thing. There are a lot of scary things out there, but if we never let ourselves trust and move on, we will never know what good could be on the other side of healing. Maybe I am reading too much into that.
I will say, there are some trigger warnings to this sweet tale, there is mention of stalking and harm from that as well as infidelity and divorce. If any of these things ( even in a pretty fluffy way of talking about them) are too much to read about, please skip this one, otherwise, I really enjoyed this sweet book and would defiantly recommend it!
