Book Review: Notes to New Mothers By REbecca Knight

October 2, 2026

It is hard to review, or even rate a book like this because it is a collection of essays from sixty-five artists who are also mothers. It is hard because what am I supposed to even say about what they have written? They are each discussing their view on motherhood and their experiences entering it. Reading all their stories both made me feel seen, and also made me feel like I need to not make a big deal out of the things I am feeling because some mothers had it so so much worse. The book is a collectionof stories that center around different topics. I cannot remember them all, but I know that there were topics such as Breastfeeding, Pain, and Delivery. I, overall, think I would suggest this book, but also don’t forget that everyone has a different capacity, support system, and family dynamic. Your motherhood is not invalid because someone has it “worse”.
