Book Review: Say You’ll Remember Me by Abby Jimenez

July 3, 2026

We follow the story of Xavier Rush, a devastatingly handsome veterinarian, and Samantha Diaz, a spunky media manager for an organic mustard company. Xavier is stoic and cool under pressure. Samantha is quick witted and vibrant. And they’re instantly smitten. The book starts and we jump right into their first date. And from there it’s all down hill. Samantha said yes thinking it would be a nice time and a free meal. Little did she know, she’d found her soulmate. The day before she moves back home to California from Minnesota to take care of her mother with dementia. Xavier just opened his own practice so he can’t relocate to her ( and really should he after one really great date?!) and there is no way Samantha can leave her family now as it feels like it’s all crumbling around them. This relationship feels more real than anything and more impossible than they could imagine. Will they ever be able to have a life together? Will traveling back in forth be all they ever get?

I do want to warn you of some triggers. There is mention of abuse in this book and hinting at infidelity. Xavier’s parents are cruel and manipulative, and his father drowns puppies. Please enter this book with caution.

I also want to say, this book was not my favorite of Abby’s. I have grown rather fond of her work but this one dragged on for me. It also used language that was jarring in a book because of its modern context. And she also mentioned Rhys from ACOTAR multiple times in the first 30 pages and that was really annoying to me. The middle section of this book felt like “let’s add as many obstacles as we can so when they get together (sorry spoiler) it feels even more reliving” and she really packed them in. But in the end, when things all tied together, it was really sweet. So I will say it worked. But I just didn’t love it. Overall I think I’d still suggest it. Just not my favorite of her work.
