Mid-Year Check In

July 8, 2026

Now that we’re just a little over halfway through the year, I wanted to check in with how my goals are going.

  • read 30 books - I may have underestimated how much I could read during naps. I have read 28 books so far this year so I may need to reevaluate my number

  • get in the kitchen more - honestly I have been! Not as much as I’d like but better than last year, that’s for sure

  • make clothes - absolutely nothing has been made

  • write more fiction - nothing here either

  • little to no social media time - this is a swinging pendulum; I go from nothing for months to checking it every hour

  • act like a tourist in my own town - this has gone fairly well! I do feel like we’ve tried things and done things we wouldn’t normally

  • take lots and lots of pictures - this is a no brainer; I’ve had to purchase more storage space for my phone. I have not started a baby book though

  • make new friends - I started a book club so fingers crossed that facilitates friendships for me and the others in the group

  • spend as much time as possible outside - this has been pretty easy to implement especially because Ro is so outdoorsy. any upset is instantly soothed by being outside

  • daily movement - ehhhh this is not bad but not great. lots of walks but that’s about it

  • nurse the whole year - almost 8 months in and still going strong

  • something else I’d like to add is spending the first 5/10 minutes outside after waking up to set the day off calmly. this can be with Ro (preferably) or without

  • I’ve fallen off with writing in my journal every day and I’m sad about it but I also just don’t feel like I have a lot of time to spare and it’s not as much of a priority as I could make it
